Madcat:
Madlib Gig Poster
Tools Used: Procreate, Adobe Photoshop and InDesign
Client: School Project
Collaborators: Solo
For this poster, we were randomly assigned another classmate’s favorite band/artist to create a gig poster for a local performance. I created a series of mindmaps and moodboards capturing the overall blind feeling of the music, the lyrical content, and another after researching the performer in depth.
I then interviewed my classmate to compare and contrast our takeaways. One unique commonality that we both experiences was picturing a large cat with a strong presence while listening to his work.
This particular artist utilizes quite a bit of illustration in the album and event art in both his solo and collaborative projects and draws on both nostalgic and psychedelic elements in his sounds and imagery.
I based the illustration of this poster on both vintage comic book line illustrations and velvet blacklight posters, and I used the bold series of green dots to add depth and emphasize the cat’s commanding presence.
